History of the Mid-Atlantic Lectureship
The Mid-Atlantic Lectureship is designed to strengthen the growing fellowship among the Mid-Atlantic congregations of The Church of Christ. This event is held annually, in the summer season, for a period of three days. Different hosts are selected to conduct this event with their chosen theme. All themes have been focused on diverse ways of building a better relationship(s) with Christ, in Christ, and through Christ.
The first annual Mid-Atlantic Lectureship was held June 18-20, 2004. It was hosted at Central Church of Christ by Minister Humphrey Foutz. The theme was unity from the Scripture,” So we being many, are one body in Christ.” Romans 12:5.
The Central Church of Christ became the host of the second annual Mid-Atlantic Lectureship on June 17-19, 2005. The theme of this lectureship was: “Living in God’s Great House.” The Scripture that inspired this theme was 2 Timothy 2:20-21.
The third annual Mid-Atlantic Lectureship was held June 23-25, 2006, hosted by the Suitland Church of Christ. The theme of this lectureship was: “Living Victoriously in a Defeated World.” inspired by Rom. 8:37. To keep the momentum up for this lectureship, Suitland provided its attendees with a number of information and an intense marketing strategy. A brochure was provided for registration information, accommodations, a choice of three hotels, childcare, transportation, event schedule, driving directions, parking, and contact information.
The fourth annual Mid-Atlantic Lectureship was held June 29-July 1, 2007, hosted by the Capital Church of Christ. The theme of this lectureship was, “Rejoice in the Lord Always.” The book of Philippians inspired this theme. This Lectureship was known for it’s interactivity. Also, during this weekend a tribute in honor of the late Humphrey Foutz was held.
The fifth annual Mid-Atlantic Lectureship was held July 18-20, 2008. It was hosted by Harrisburg Church of Christ. The theme of this lectureship was, “Christ is our Cornerstone Standing on the Solid Rock.” This theme was inspired by Ephesians 2:20.
The sixth annual Mid-Atlantic Lectureship was held July 17-19, 2009 hosted by the District Heights Church of Christ. The theme of this lectureship was, “The Holy Spirit-Who is He and who is He to Me.”
The seventh annual Mid-Atlantic Lectureship was held July 15-18, 2010. It was hosted by East Baltimore Church of Christ. East Baltimore greatly accommodated all attendees by providing childcare throughout the whole lectureship and banquet.
The eighth annual Mid-Atlantic Lectureship was held July 15-17, 2011. It was hosted by Cambridge Church of Christ. The theme of this lectureship was, “Who is this Jesus?” The Woodlawn Park Church of Christ hosted the ninth annual lectureship tin 2012 under the theme “How to Win In Christ,” inspired by selections in 1st and 2nd Timothy.

The 2020 Mid-Atlantic Lectureship will be hosted by the Capital Church of Christ in Annapolis. We look forward to your participation in this great event!
There is a growing fellowship among the Mid-Atlantic churches, as well as the vehicle by which this fellowship has grown. The Mid-Atlantic Preachers Meeting was designed to serve as a tool to strengthen the fellowship and effectiveness of the congregations in the Washington, DC, Northern Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, and Eastern Pennsylvania areas. This monthly fellowship of preachers and leaders consist of four components:
1) Workshops to provide valuable lessons and information to strengthen, encourage, and enhance
the preacher's ability to minister at the congregation where he serves.
2) The opportunity to share information concerning congregational activities for effective regional
calendars and better regional support.
3) The opportunity to accomplish large scale projects that reflect the Church of Christ in the Mid-
Atlantic region as "many members yet one body". Some current projects are; The Area Wide
Fellowship; Mid-Atlantic Lectureship; Northeast Baltimore Bible Institute & College; Mid-Atlantic
Dinner Day (Christian Education Fund Raiser); Hosting the National Crusade for Christ.
4) The fourth component of the Mid-Atlantic Preachers Meeting is to provide preachers and leaders
the opportunity to receive personal encouragement and build personal relationships with each
other as Paul had with Timothy, or as Jesus had with Peter, James, and John.
I am confident they will find a warm welcome, encouraging words, an informative workshop, and brethren who love one another in the name of Jesus. I am also confident that if they come in the spirit of Christ, they will leave blessed and encouraged.
To God Be The Glory,
Bro. Edward Maxwell, Sr.
Minister Clinton Church of Christ
